Vasily Kotarbinsky was a Russian sculptor who specialized in historical and mythological themes. He studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts and later in Italy, where he became influenced by the work of the Italian Renaissance sculptors. He is best known for his monumental sculptures, such as the equestrian statue of Peter the Great in St. Petersburg and the monument to Alexander III in Kiev.
