Gary Hume is a British artist known for his distinctive use of colour and simple forms. He was born in Kent, England, and studied at Goldsmiths College in London, where he was part of the group known as the "Young British Artists.” Hume's paintings often feature large, flat areas of bright colour, with simple shapes and bold outlines. He has worked in a variety of mediums, including painting, sculpture, and printmaking. Some of his best-known works are his "door" paintings, which are based on the design of hospital doors, and his portrait series, which depict famous figures such as Tony Blair, Michael Jackson, and Kate Moss. Hume's work has been exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, including at the Venice Biennale, the Guggenheim Museum in New York, and the Tate Gallery in London. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Jerwood Painting Prize and the Royal Academy's Wollaston Award. Hume is regarded as one of the leading British artists of his generation and his work continues to influence contemporary art today.
