Peter Blake is a British painter, sculptor, and printmaker born on June 25, 1932, in Dartford, England. He studied at the Gravesend Technical College and the Royal College of Art in London. Blake is best known for his pop art works, which often feature popular icons and imagery from British culture. He is perhaps best known for creating the iconic album cover for The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." Some of his other famous works include "On the Balcony," "Self-Portrait with Badges," and "The Meeting or Have a Nice Day Mr. Hockney." Blake's work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, and he was made a Knight Bachelor in 2002. Blake has also been the recipient of numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Acrylic Painters Association in 2005. In addition to his work as an artist, Blake has also worked as a teacher, serving as a professor at the Royal College of Art from 1978 to 1986. He continues to create new works and remains an important figure in the world of contemporary art.
