Phyllida Barlow
1944-2023Biography
Phyllida Barlow is a British sculptor born on April 4, 1944, in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. She studied at the Chelsea College of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art in London. Barlow's sculptures are known for their large scale and use of everyday materials such as cardboard, plywood, and plaster. She often creates installations that take up entire rooms, blurring the boundaries between sculpture and architecture. Some of her most famous works include "dock," "untitled: 100banners2015," and "untitled: upturnedhouse." Barlow's work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, and she was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2016.
