Mikhail Tkachenko
1860-1916Biography
Mikhail Tkachenko was a Russian painter known for his landscape and genre paintings. He was born in the village of Paseka in the Tula region of Russia. Tkachenko studied art at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, where he was a student of Vasily Perov and Alexei Savrasov. He later became a member of the Peredvizhniki (Wanderers) movement, a group of Russian realist artists who sought to depict the realities of life in Russia. Tkachenko's paintings often portrayed the beauty of the Russian countryside and the simple life of its inhabitants. He had a special interest in the peasant way of life, and many of his paintings depict scenes from rural life, including farm work, fishing, and village celebrations. He was also known for his skillful use of light and shadow to create a sense of atmosphere and mood in his paintings. Tkachenko's works are held in many major collections throughout Russia, including the State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Russian Museum. Despite his relatively short career, Tkachenko is considered one of the most important landscape painters of his time, and his works are highly sought after by collectors today.
