After graduating, Semiradsky moved to Italy, where he lived for more than 20 years and painted many of his most famous works. His paintings often depicted grand historical and biblical scenes, with an emphasis on dramatic lighting and emotional intensity. He was particularly fascinated by ancient Roman history, and many of his works feature scenes from Roman mythology and history.
