Bryan Wynter
1905-1975Biography
Bryan Wynter was a British abstract artist. He was born in St Ives, Cornwall, and studied at the Chelsea School of Art in London. Wynter's work was heavily influenced by the Cornish landscape and his interest in natural forms and patterns. He was also inspired by the Surrealist movement and developed a unique style of abstract expressionism. In the 1950s, Wynter became associated with the St Ives School of artists, which included figures such as Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson. He was a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists and was elected a Royal Academician in 1962. Wynter's work is characterized by bold, colourful, and abstract compositions that often evoke the natural world. He experimented with different techniques and materials, including oil, gouache, and collage, and his paintings often have a textured, tactile quality. Wynter continued to work until his death in 1975 and his legacy continues to influence contemporary British artists.
