Yuli Yulievich Klever
1850-1924Biography
Yuli Yulievich Klever was a Russian landscape painter who specialized in depicting the natural beauty of the Crimean Peninsula. Born in what is now Estonia, Klever studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts before becoming a professor at the Imperial Academy of Arts in 1894. He was particularly drawn to the landscapes of the Crimean Peninsula, which he began visiting in the 1880s, and which he would continue to paint for the rest of his career. Klever's paintings of the Crimea are known for their poetic and romantic qualities, with his use of light and colour creating a sense of atmosphere and mood that captured the essence of the region's rugged mountains, verdant forests, and shimmering seascapes. He was widely recognised for his contributions to Russian landscape painting, and his work can be found in many major Russian museums, including the State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Russian Museum.
